Security policy for visitors from outside the EU
Officially, all non EU visitors (whether intern students, post-docs or invited researchers) must go through a security clearance **two months** prior to their arrival. Please get in touch with your host at LIRIS, who will help you going through the procedure. This process will also help triggering the organisation of your arrival (getting an office/desk, accomodation, access cards for the laboratory buildings and advices on restaurants on campus).
Hosting agreement for foreign visitors
The Hosting agreement is a document prepared by the hosting institution and that will be key for obtaining the scientific visa for the foreign visitor. This procedure should be launched at least 3 months before the visitor's arrival. To get this agreement, your host at LIRIS fills a hosting form and get it signed by the hosting institution and then by the Rhône-Alpes Prefecture Direction. Once validated by the prefecture, the document is sent back to the laboratory and can be used by the visitor for the issuance of his scientific visa. The embassy will then give the visitor the document « OFFII* application form» ; that must be filled in and returned to the address : OFFI - 7, rue Quivogne 69002 Lyon- France. The visitor will then get assigned an appointment at the Office Français de l’Immigration et de l’Intégration (more information on : http://www.ofii.fr/) for a medical examination upon arrival in France. During the appointment, his visa will be validated by the deposit of the OFFI sticker equivalent to a residence permit for one year.Ulys assistance for foreign scientists and their families
Espace Ulys provides a day-to-day assistance for procedures relative to preparing your arrival and your stay. This includes accomodation, health insurance, visa, etc. You can find further information and free access to the service here : http://www.espace-ulys.fr/enProcedure for intern students
For internships: Interns must have an authorisation to be in the lab. It should be filed 2 months in advance, and will help get a VISA if needed. For internships under 3 months, the consulate can deliver it. For internships above 3 months, the student must have his agreement ("convention") signed by all parties (typically university of studies + LIRIS), and the Culture Service from the French Ambassy of the country of residence. Once this is done a security clearance can be delivered. A lot of this paper work will happen through snail mail, so plan ahead!
